On a busy day it is easy to say that you don’t have time to eat healthy, which is unfortunate because during a stressful time, your body desperately needs the fiber, vitamins and nutrients that can be absorbed from healthy foods.
It is not always easy to improve your diet while under a heavy work load, but there are a few tips that may help you develop healthy eating habits that will reward you for a lifetime. By starting small and continuing to consistently make better food choices, you can go from eating terribly and feeling terrible, to looking great and eating great.
Keep your cool when eating out. While you may be tempted to splurge a bit, try to keep your health in perspective. Without eating healthy, you may not be able to frequent restaurants. To keep yourself from temptation, decide what you will order well before you go out. Contemplating on what you will order will give you time to adjust to the thought of eating healthy in a restaurant setting and will strengthen your will power.
Remind yourself to eat only when you are truly hungry. Many people eat for comfort. When you eat for comfort, the food is easily stored as fat because your body is stressed.
Bring some healthy snack foods along with you each time you leave the house. It will keep you from buying unhealthy food when you are on the go and will also save you money.
Make yourself breakfast. A light breakfast can be very invigorating and will infuse you with energy for the day. Try a piece of fruit paired with a handful of nuts. Or combine fruits and vegetable greens to create a nutrient-rich smoothie that will supply you with lasting energy.
Plan your day in advance so you know what foods you will need to bring along. Forming these healthy new habits will keep you eating well without adding to your stress load. All it takes is a few extra minutes, but it can mean the difference between a good day and a bad day.
